Core answer
Whether you know PreparedStatement's two big wins: safety and reuse.
Treating it as security-only, or still concatenating values.
Mention it also handles type conversion and escaping correctly for you.

Interview answer
SELECT * FROM users WHERE email = ? fixes the query structure and binds the email separately at the JDBC API level. An input containing quotes or SQL operators remains one value. The driver may use a server-prepared statement, a client-side protocol, or an emulated path; the safety comes from parameter semantics, not from the claim that every database compiled the SQL once before seeing any values. Reuse and batching may improve performance, but validate with the target driver.
PreparedStatement in JDBC — Overview and Benefits
Direct Answer
PreparedStatement represents SQL with parameter placeholders and typed binding methods. It is the normal choice for values because parameters preserve SQL structure and prevent those values from becoming injected syntax. Repeated execution can reduce parsing or improve batching, but precompilation and plan reuse depend on the driver, database, connection, and configuration, so it is not universally faster.
Common Mistakes & Pitfalls
Treating it as security-only, or still concatenating values.
